Hello.

Welcome. I write about travels, life lessons, family, and the food I cook. Enjoy!

Neat Freak.

Neat Freak.

Let’s talk about my need to keep things neat and organized.

Since I was a little girl I loved to go through my stuff and get rid of clutter. I was never too attached to any clothes or toys. My mom encouraged me to donate anything I was no longer using. Not being attached to things helps a ton when it comes to decluttering and organizing. I have special things in my home that I would never get rid of, but I do love making space for new, fresh items!

Growing up I loved going through my mom and dad’s workspaces and organizing them. I would clean the house in exchange for a trip to Chuck E. Cheeses with my best friend. I would clean out my dad’s garage for fun.

My first year in college I ended up sharing a room with two other girls after thinking I was going to have my own room! I quickly realized that I didn’t need many things to live. I had brought SO much stuff with me as a freshman and there was no need.

Garrett and I currently live a one bedroom + den apartment. We don’t have much space. Having our own garage right underneath our place definitely helps with storage! With a baby on the way, my organizing skills have definitely come into play. We won’t be at this current place for too much longer. For now my goal is for our place to still feel like our own and not overtaken by baby stuff.

I’ve come to realize a lot of my need to keep things organized is out of a need to be prepared. Garrett calls me his little “preparer”. I enjoy feeling prepared in any area of my life. I do know I can’t control everything that comes my way, but being prepared never hurt anyone right?

Here’s a list of some of my craziness:

  • To-do lists on my IPhone

  • I make my bed as soon as I get up

  • I put gas in my car when it’s about half way empty, just in case.

  • Every time I put gas in my car I throw away out trash or empty water bottles.

  • I put laundry away within the same day it’s done.

  • I wash the dishes as I cook (no overwhelming pile at the end of the night).

  • As soon as we get home from a trip, I unpack and put everything where it belongs.

  • I take a few minutes morning and night to put things in their place.

  • Thanks to Pinterest, I’ve started to figure out what style I like in my home. This helps a ton when picking out any new items.

  • I go through our entire kitchen and donate any items I no longer use.

  • I put all my spices in matching containers. I wanted to keep this as cheap as possible, I found some super cute containers on Amazon.

  • I started to work on my pantry with matching containers (container store is the best, looks for deals!)

  • I go through my closet several times a year and get rid of anything I no longer wear. We go through Garrett’s side of the closet at least once a year.

  • I’ve Marie Kondoed all our dresser drawers (love being able to see everything inside)

Some of these may seem excessive, but I love it. Now. this may all change once our baby girl arrives and I’m much more busy, but my plan to use them all to my advantage! Maybe some of them will be able to help you too!
